Name of blog: NikkiMcCaig.com
What is your blog about?
My blog is predominantly about beauty, fashion, lifestyle advice and craft guides!
How often do you blog?
Well, as much as I try to do weekly, my schedule is a little scattered! Sometimes I can be inspired to write three posts a week, other times I can be struck dumb for weeks on end.
How long have you been blogging?
I have been blogging for just over 18 months now, having started in March 2015.
What programme do you use to blog?
Originally, I started out on Blogspot, but eventually transferred over to WordPress!
What inspired you to start a blog?
I’d always loved bloggers like Zoella and Hannah Maggs, and I’d been reading their posts for years before blogging, but it never occurred to me that I had enough to write about to start one myself. It was only when I was trying to apply for an internship that I realised I needed to prove I could write, so I whipped up my first ever blog with 3 ready made posts in less than 48 hours!
How do you motivate yourself to blog?
Strangely, I have more trouble motivating myself to do anything else. Blogging is the job I enjoy the most, and the only one I never struggle to get in the mood for. But if I am ever having a down day, I simply set the scene – light my favourite candle, straighten up my desk, pour myself a large coffee and just write.
What is your favourite thing about blogging?
My favourite thing about blogging is the freedom. In other areas of my life, I’m always being told what to write and how to write it…how many words it should be, what I should include, who I should be writing like. When it comes to blogging, I’m the only one who can decide what goes up, and what gets written.
Are there any downsides to it?
I always find that my envy gets in the way of truly enjoying blogging – I’m terrible for blogger-envy! There are so many creative and inspiring bloggers out there with beautiful homes, expensive cameras and gorgeous clothes that I tend to feel dumpy and inelegant compared to them.
For all us newbies to the blogging word, what is your advice to them?
My advice is, don’t be me. Appreciate the beautiful blogs for what they are, but don’t let them affect your goals and your blog. Stick with what makes you happy and aim as high
as you feel comfortable. Just be you, and let your blog be itself.
And just for fun, name one social media platform you could not live without?
Currently, it’s Pinterest! I go through so many phases of downloading and deleting the app on my phone, but right now my thumbs are stuck to it! I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a little creative inspiration in their lives.
