Name: Gina
Name of blog: Culturebean.
What is your blog about?
All things cultural from events I attend, experiences I try and places I visit. I want to inspire you to dip your toe in to some culture, try something out of the ordinary and explore the Northern scene.
How often do you blog?
I post blog and vlogs weekly so you can read my reviews and watch my cultural adventures too.
How long have you been blogging?
Once someone called me a veteran as it has been six years. I began as a ‘secret blogger’ but last November I ‘came out of the closet’ so to speak and started promoting my posts.
What programme do you use to blog?
I started with blogger in 2011. This year I made the move to self hosted on WordPress. It was easier than expected and now I have so much more control over my site. I love it.
What inspired you to start a blog?
I wanted to keep up my passion for writing after graduating University and I loved theatre so that’s what I reviewed. But it’s grown and evolved over the past six years in to a wide range of culture.
How do you motivate yourself to blog?
Usually my cultural life is motivation enough. I just can’t keep my thoughts in my head. I also keep to a schedule and set deadlines. That keeps me on track.
What is your favourite thing about blogging?
Writing. That really is my favourite part. The fact that people read my jumble of words is a huge buzz. I obviously love being invited to events and meeting other bloggers too.
Are there any downsides?
You can feel like this insignificant spec in a sea of bloggers. And stat watch like a hawk! Don’t compare yourself to others or worry about how many views you have. Although it is really hard.
For all us newbies to the blogging world, what is your advice to them?
Write about something you are passionate about. That really is the secret. Simples.
And just for fun, name one social media platform you could not live without?
Twitter. My thumb is continuously scrolling. It’s the best way to promote your blog, make friends and keep up to date with cool things.
