Oh how I love a Heritage Open Day, it gives the chance to us Culture lovers to visit a wide range of venues.
Such as The Customs House… (see what I did there 😉 )
The events starts today at 11am where The Customs House are opening the historical building to the public. They will be putting on a special film screening as well as a guided tour.
Box Office Manager, Angela Hannon will be leading the tour said : “I’m really looking forward to the tour, taking people to parts of the building they don’t usually get to see and sharing its history with them. There’s no need to book – just turn up!”
Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture, bringing together over 2,500 organisations, 5,000 events and 40,000 volunteers.
She said: “We have been involved in Heritage Open Days since the beginning and new events keep being added, for example, the Great North Passion this year.
As well as the tour and the screening, visitors can also expect a special session at the North East Maritime Trust boatyard in South Shields. In collaboration with The Drawn Together group, visiters can learn how to play the spoons in the amphitheatre outside The Customs House.
