Why I love Frisky & Mannish

FYI This is totally a fangirl post but I feel like I need to tell the world why I love Frisky and Mannish and what they mean to me.

Frisk what and Man who now?

According to their website, they are“popmusicy-seriocomic-mashparodic-stereophonic-LOUD-vaudevillian-sketchcabaret-throwbackcurrent-oldfangled-newfashioned-bapsbotty-infotainment.”

Or, to be succinct, they tit around with pop songs.

How I found them

I remember being on a bus and a North East Cabaret Artist Chris Cross was tweeting You Tube videos of Frisky and Mannish.

And I was like, who the heck are they and how do I get them in my life, they were soo funny and I loved the costumes. I really wanted to see them live, checking the tour dates I noticed they were performing a Christmas show in London. And without even thinking I booked tickets inc train tickets and that is how it started.

This was my first experience of Frisky and Mannish, I was all on my own in London, travelling to a venue I had no idea of but excited to see the performance. And what a performance it was, very festive and very funny.

The Pink Blazer

I watched more videos of them online and came across this video, there is a moment in the clip where Mannish has a pink blazer and amazing high tops on. Immediately I wanted to see if I could rock that look.

And I bought a pink blazer, black top and skinny jeans and it was amazing. I loved the outfit and I loved how I felt confident in myself- that I could wear such a bright colour, so from then, I started to buy other shades of pink and all the other colours in the rainbow.

I even went all out with the high tops.

Frisky and Mannish have really influenced my fashion choices, throughout my life and still do this day I have always worn out there/crazy colours to really stand out from the crowd.

Confidence

FnM brought out a lot of confidence in myself, I would have never have travelled to London all on my own to see them live but I did. During my high school and university years, I was still following the cabaret duo so that confidence and flair that I had gained flowed through my education experience. The old me would have hidden and shied away from opportunities and meeting people but Frisky and Mannish inspired me to come out of my shell and it was because of them that I really jumped out the box.

Just Too Much

I did not know about the Extra Curricular Activites as I wasn’t in the know for Frisky and Mannish so I missed out on the live shows. But I did manage to see their new show at the time, Just Too Much.

I was working at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe at the time when they were showing their Just Too Much Show and of course I managed to see it many a time. AND I MET THEM for the first time too.

Yes, the photo you see at the top is me with Mannish (left) and Frisky (right) when I first met them, Matthew and Laura (real names) were really friendly and lovely. I was a little nervous to meet them but honestly, they were so warming and really chatty.

I got to know these amazing duo more and they did split off to do their own shows, which I supported and managed to see.  They did tour Just Too Much and they took it to Sage Gateshead, so I brought my Mum along so she could see what all the fuss was about.

As you can tell, she enjoyed it. I also got FnM a present, this is how the pair came up with their name. Safe to say I think they appreciated my gift.

So where are they now?

Frisky and Mannish have a new show Pop Lab and they are going to the Fringe with it, I have not decided if I am going or not though I probably will be at some point.
