I came across The Dancers Pointe on Instagram as they have some beautiful ballet images. I was interested to know more so I interviewed the dance clothing company for my blog.
I wanted to have my own business for a while but wasn’t sure what, I nearly bought an existing dancewear business but then decided it was better to start from scratch… I danced when I was younger and love musical theatre so when the opportunity came up I got very excited about it.
How has Covid19 affected your business?
I had to close for around 12 weeks, I had only been open for 8 weeks so was just getting going and building up my customer base. It has defiantly set me back and opening the second time around was much harder. That was 6 weeks ago. It has been very quiet because dance schools are closed. Now they are opening it is picking up a little.
What Covid19 safety measures are in place in your store?
I only allow 1 person or 1 family in at a time, there is a hand sanitising station as you enter. I have standing stations on the floor marked by ballet slippers. There is a screen at the counter.
I wear a face mask if I’m not behind the screen. I have a portable screen for shoe fitting and a protocol for the fitting. I have an appointment system if people do not feel comfortable just turning up or maybe they are in the vulnerable category or front line workers. All the information is on my website and there are notices at the door.
What are your hopes for the future of The Dancers Pointe?
I am hoping to build a regular customer base and establish good links with local schools. I would love to get a contract to provide a uniform for some schools. Reputation is key, I would hope people find me courteous and helpful, and my products of high quality but affordable.
Where and how are your products made?
I try wherever possible to stock British manufactured products. Some of these are large to medium established businesses but I also champion small business may be run from peoples homes. It’s important that small businesses support each other. I find the quality so much better. Where I can’t source from the UK I try to source from quality brands in Europe I’m currently working with Ballet Rosa (Portugal) and Like G (Italy).
What dance products do you sell?
Just about everything…clothing from ..class wear to casual T-shirts, footwear, accessories, bags, hair styling. I am a qualified Pointe shoe fitter and sell British and Russian Pointe shoes. I have my own brand Tees and hoodies. What I don’t have I can get!!!
Do you cater to a particular dance style?
No, all dance styles can be catered for. I have had people enquire about Irish dancing and cheerleading.
What is your best seller?
In the 8 weeks I was open the best sellers were Ballet slippers, black leotards, ballet packs for the little ones (slippers, leotard, cardigan.tights) and bags. Get back to me in 6 months and I will have a better idea.
Why should dancers come to you?
I’m easy to get to, free parking right outside, I have a good range and If I don’t have what you need I can get it for you usually in 24-48 hrs. I champion British manufacturers. You will be welcomed with a smile and not pressured to buy. I’m here to help.
