SmileyWorld® Art Trail

I had heard that there loads of smiling faces across the North East and wondered what everyone was talking about. Well it turned out that there is a SmileyWorld® Art Trail in North Tyneside where you can find 15 bright yellow sculptures.

Though not everyone is smiling as they are based on human emotions. Created through a collaboration between The Smiley Company® and creative producers Wild in Art, we downloaded the free app or there is printed map that you can download too.

I only explored Forest Hall, Whitley Bay, Tynemouth, Killingworth and Cullercoats though you can also find them in North Shields and Wallsend too. I think I found 8 so far and they all have a range of emotions such as admiration, calmness, anxiety, sadness, excitement, joy and pride.

The app is really easy to use and it’s an adventure trying to find each Smile, I also like that all of the artworks on the back of faces are all so different and the app provides you with details about the artists who designed each one.

The trail is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund with the North of Tyne Combined Authority as the lead authority. The award was from an allocation specifically dedicated to culture, creative and tourism projects. I like that it got me out in the fresh air and I got to see parts of North Tyneside that I had never been before including some eateries.

The SmileyWorld® Art Trail is on till the 2 April.
