Prudhoe Front Street- The Emporium

This is one of my new features, where I celebrate the local businesses in my area- which happens to be Prudhoe.

Let me introduce you to the first local shop in Front Street.

What is your business called?

The Emporium is the name on the front of our building, Crafters Emporium is the name that we use for Facebook, Website, Twitter and Instagram.

What service do you provide?

We provide showcase space that enables local crafters, makers, artists and small businesses the opportunity to showcase their products on the high street for a small rental fee. Approximately 95% of our members are from the North East of England.

We also give these people the opportunity to run their own workshops right here in The Emporium. All classes are small and informal and include all materials required as well as refreshments.

We have a range of bespoke greetings cards created by artists and crafters from the North East. There is a gift wrap service for products purchased within The Emporium, and we also offer a write and post service should people be unable to get into The Emporium.

We are agents for Enhance Dry Cleaners and provide a drop/collect dry clean and alteration service. We get collections/returns on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Where in Prudhoe are you?

You can find us at 72 Front Street Prudhoe, opposite St Mary Magdalene Parish Church Hall.

When did you open your shop?

We opened Crafters Emporium on 21st April 2015 in Mickley. We moved to Prudhoe on 1st August 2017.

Why Prudhoe Front Street?

Prudhoe is a busy place with a lovely friendly community. Having lived in Prudhoe for over 40 years it was the ideal place to open up. We knew before arriving that our little shop was different from any other within Prudhoe.

What is the best thing about being on Front Street?

Prudhoe is a friendly community and being on Front Street we see a lot of familiar faces from day to day, which tells us that Prudhoe is a much needed and used town, supported by the locals. We love seeing people shopping and chatting as they make their way through the town, also children laughing and playing on their way home from school. Prudhoe is a lovely place to work.

Are there any challenges?

We are based at the top end of Prudhoe, so people need to walk a little further up the main street to find us. Once they do, they usually become regular visitors.

Have you noticed a change in how people shop? Are they supporting local businesses rather than going mainstream high street?

We haven’t been in Prudhoe long enough to see how people shop. However, if people want something different and bespoke they do visit us. We don’t yet offer online shopping, but this is something we may do in the future.

If people want to visit and use your services. When are you open, how can people contact you?

We are a family business, ran by Tracey Robinson Owner and Rebecca Robinson.

Our normal hours are 10.30 – 4.30 Tuesday to Friday and 10.30 – 1.30 on Saturdays.  We are NOT closed for lunch.     Contact can be made via telephone 01661 599 483.    Email enquiries@craftersemporium.co.uk   Facebook Page Crafters Emporium.

Do you have a passion for Crafting?  Would you like to open up your very own showcase space in a High Street Shop?  You can from £12.50 a month!   Email us enquiries@craftersemporium.co.uk
